Caperucita Roja and the Big Bad Wolf

2014

Boxing, Dance and Performance Event, made in collaboration by dance artist Marion Ramirez, visual artists Tim Gibbon and mural artist Desiree Bender. This was a Tyler Community Arts Project in collaboration with Pepon Osorio.

This year, one of the most exciting research and transformative experiences involved a year long community arts project collaborating with visual artists to develop work with and for the members of the North Philadelphia Latino community, specifically a Willie Torres' neighborhood boxing gym. In "Caperucita Roja and the Big Bad Wolf" a performance, site-specific event I was able to expand my performance and choreographic research to find a bridge for collective learning between the artists and the community members like no other creative process. Confrontation, violence, fear, differences and powerful connections were explored thru inter-disciplinary dialogue.

  • May 1st, 2nd, 2014 at 6pm at the Willie Torres Boxing GYM, 523 W. Venango Ave, Philadelphia

This project was later presented at the Penn University’s Community Art Conference in 2016, by Marion Ramirez, Desiree Bender, Tim Gibon and Willie Torres.
